Judith Kituku
ACSA President 2009-10

Over the years the University of Chicago has become a home away from home for students of African and Caribbean descent who come to seek out their dreams from so far lands. These students bring a wealth of diversity in culture and a unique vibrancy to the University of Chicago. As a means of proclaiming our identity the African and Caribbean Students’ Association was born, our leader being Eferiekose Ukala and colleagues. We still carry this bequest four years down the line to celebrate the unique legacies of African and Caribbean populations by forging relationships of exchange between both of these communities within the College, and by sponsoring year-round cultural and political programming that engages the greater University of Chicago community.

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.” Nelson Mandela.

We seek to speak to you of our presence in the University, in your language, so as to share our vision for our almost lost identities in the array of other cultures that we are sharing our lives with here.
